Corrections and wrong values

A released vintage is never edited. A value-affecting mistake is fixed by a new build that supersedes the old one, labelled with a revision marker.

The short answer

If a released vintage turns out to contain a defect that changes values, DTG builds a correction and labels it with a revision marker: the first correction of DTG 2026.3 is DTG 2026.3r1, the second DTG 2026.3r2. The correction supersedes the defective build, and the defective build is no longer served: nothing is answered from it again. It is not edited and not deleted; it is withdrawn and kept on record. A fix that changes only documentation changes no label.

What you see

  • In the vintage menu, a superseded build stays listed, cannot be picked, and reads “replaced by” the correction.
  • In a workspace pinned to it, a Corrected notice says the vintage was withdrawn and replaced, and offers to use the correction.
  • In the API, a request for a superseded build answers 404 with the correction named, and one for a build withdrawn before its correction is ready answers 404 with the current vintage named. See the API errors page.
  • By notification, when a correction becomes current: owners, admins and the people who exported CSV or API data from the defective build are told how many times their organization did, so files already passed on can be checked. Every CSV names its vintage in its preamble, and every workbook on its Source sheet, which is how to tell which build a file came from.

The release notes for a correction say what changed and why; see releases.

Reporting a value you think is wrong

Write to support@datatactical.group with “data error” in the subject. Include the vintage label shown in the app or in the file, the area, the industry or occupation code, the period, the ownership, and the value you saw, and why you think it is wrong. A person reads it. If the value is wrong, the fix is a correction as described above, not an edit to the released vintage. A value that only looks surprising, such as an estimate in a small county, may be correct; what estimated means explains how to read one.

How vintages work in the app is on vintages on screen. The full account of vintages and corrections is on the methodology’s vintages page.
