# Exporting data: Excel and CSV

Download the table as shown as an Excel workbook, or the underlying data as a long-format CSV with provenance on every industry row. File export is on paid plans and, during a trial, for the trial county.

## The short answer

Two buttons sit above the table. **Download table as shown · XLSX** gives you the grid in front of you as an Excel workbook: its columns, sort, filters and display rounding on a Table sheet, and the source on a second sheet. **Underlying data (CSV)** gives you the data behind the view as a long-format CSV, one row per series and period, with a preamble of comment lines naming the vintage, the source and the endpoint. File export is on paid plans, and during a trial for the trial county.

## Which one to use

Use the workbook when you want what you see: the same rows, columns and order, ready to share. It carries the columns on screen, and on industry data it always adds the disclosure code and reliability score beside the values they describe, whether or not those columns are showing, so the provenance travels with the figures. Use the CSV when you want data to work with: every industry row always carries `disclosure`, `reliability`, `naics_restated` and `fips_restated`, whatever is on screen, and occupation rows carry none, because occupation values have no value-level provenance. The CSV is the same file the API’s CSV format returns; its exact shape is on the [API CSV page](/docs/api/csv).

Both files carry stored values, not rounded ones: an employment estimate that shows as 0 on screen is written as its stored value, such as 0.27. The workbook keeps the full value in each cell and uses number formats only for display. Codes are written as text so a spreadsheet does not strip their leading zeros. The CSV is UTF-8 with no byte-order mark.

## The attribution line

The Terms ask that the data be attributed with the source and the vintage, as “Source: Data Tactical Group, DTG 2026.3” for example. Both files carry it: the CSV in its `# source:` preamble line and the workbook on its Source sheet, with the vintage label beside it. Keep it with the figures when you pass them on.

## Who can export, and what it costs

On Free the buttons are present and say why they are unavailable. During a trial, export is uncapped for the trial county, selected alone. A member without a seat cannot export. Exports are metered in points against the organization’s monthly allowance; values that show as zero are free, and exports of the trial county use no points. Browsing in the app is not metered. See [points and usage](/docs/billing/points-and-usage). While a payment is past due, export is paused.

Why an estimate can be smaller than one is on the methodology’s [industry data](/docs/methodology/industry) page. What each mark means is on [disclosure flags on screen](/docs/data/disclosure-flags).
